Former coaches and supporters of Stade Malherbe are not tender with the new management team after the relegation of the club in National 1.

“The club has been late”
After the digestion of its relegation in Ligue 2 in 2019, and its rescue in 2020, by businessman and producer Pierre-Antoine Caston, still a minority shareholder of the club (20 %), the Stade Malherbe de Caen had always maintained in the second level without the slightest difficulty, sportingly, comfortably installed in the first half of the championship, between the 5th and 7th place. “Since the start of the season, Malherbe has always been late. Mbappé and his whole team have arrived late,” said Pierre Mankowski, former stadium trainer Malherbe (1994-1996) today. “Behind, they started doing the workforce, but some players of the past season wanted to leave like Alexandre Mendy or Brahim Traoré. All these players did not make a normal preparation behind. The workforce was not fully built when the championship started. The club was late.”

“The Mbappé clan, arrived late, has its share of responsibility in this failure,” confirmed Christophe Vaucelle, the founding president of the Malherbe Normandy Kop (MNK). Because when we do not work, or we work badly, and we make believe that, on arrival, it is a club flowing,” was indignant Patrice Garande, emblematic coach of Malherbe (2005-2009 then 2012-2018). “And it is a club that is of importance, for the city, for people. It kills me to see this club go down. It is not shameful sportingly, it is just shameful in the way we have led the season, that is what makes me angry. I am no longer looking to train, I am not looking for anything, but I would have been ready to help this club, if only to discuss. But they don't even have this humility.”
“I think there is both sadness and anger,” feels Pierre Mankowski. “Because tonight, everyone realizes it. That's it, the club is national. It's really ugly for the region, ugly for the city, ugly for supporters, for everyone. It is catastrophic. I think that Stade Malherbe is a locomotive in this region, and there, the locomotive is very bad.”
