Two years after the Mets picked him in the 19th round of the 1966 draft, he chose not to sign and re-entered the draft instead. Although it took some time for him to become a regular in the major leagues, the wait proved worthwhile for Los Angeles. When the Dodgers selected him in the third round, their gamble paid off handsomely. Cey went on to be named to six Dodger All-Star teams and earned the MVP title in the 1981 World Series.
