The Oklahoma Sooners aren’t just preparing for their long-anticipated entrance into the Southeastern Conference \u2014 they’re actively reshaping the roster to thrive<\/em> in it.<\/p>\n

After a solid 2024 campaign that ended with a respectable bowl appearance and flashes of greatness under head coach Brent Venables, the Sooners have used the 2025 spring transfer window as a high-stakes accelerator. And ESPN\u2019s top college football voices are taking notice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what Oklahoma has done this spring is one of the sharpest, most intentional portal strategies I\u2019ve seen,\u201d ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill said on College Football Live<\/em>. \u201cThis is exactly how you close the gap with SEC heavyweights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s dive into why Oklahoma is winning the transfer portal war \u2014 and how the Sooners are setting themselves up for a statement 2025 season.<\/p>\n

As Oklahoma gears up for life in the SEC, where the talent pool is deeper and the hits are harder, the coaching staff knew this offseason had to be different. The mission was clear: upgrade explosiveness on offense, reinforce the defensive front, and add depth at critical positions.<\/p>\n

Enter the transfer portal.<\/p>\n

Venables and general manager Drew Hill attacked the portal with a blend of aggression and precision, not just filling holes, but upgrading units with proven performers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no question Oklahoma is building an SEC-ready roster,\u201d said ESPN\u2019s David Pollack. \u201cThey knew exactly where they needed more juice, more production, and they went out and got it.\u201d<\/p>\n

His fit in Oklahoma\u2019s offense, which returns most of its offensive line and veteran quarterback Jackson Arnold, could be seamless. Ott offers both home-run speed and third-down reliability \u2014 something the Sooners missed in stretches last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a game-changer,\u201d Venables said in a spring press conference. \u201cHe\u2019s mature, motivated, and brings a work ethic we want all our guys to emulate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oklahoma also landed Purdue wideout Deion Burks<\/strong>, one of the portal\u2019s fastest risers after a breakout 2024 campaign. Burks posted 851 yards and 9 touchdowns for the Boilermakers, consistently burning defenders with his elite top-end speed.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeion Burks might be the most underrated wide receiver addition in the country,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Matt Barrie said. \u201cHe gives them a true vertical threat to pair with Nick Anderson. That\u2019s dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burks\u2019 ability to stretch the field vertically complements Oklahoma\u2019s existing receiver room, creating matchup nightmares for defensive backs who will now have to choose between pressing Burks or giving up cushion and risking death by a thousand slants.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeams won\u2019t be able to stack the box anymore,\u201d said former Sooner WR and ESPN contributor Dusty Dvoracek. \u201cOtt and Burks open up so many options.\u201d<\/p>\n
