The Baltimore Orioles may have entered the series against the New York Yankees with a sub-.500 record and questions swirling about their rotation and offensive consistency, but they quickly silenced skeptics with a statement win Monday night at Camden Yards. With Ryan O\u2019Hearn delivering a momentum-shifting home run and Tomoyuki Sugano making an electric MLB debut, Baltimore emerged with a 4\u20133 win that was as gritty as it was strategic.<\/p>\n

This wasn’t just a win\u2014it was a blueprint for what the Orioles could become if key pieces click.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hearn has long been one of those under-the-radar contributors who doesn’t draw the spotlight but delivers when it counts. His third-inning blast was his fourth of the season and arguably his most impactful. With two runners on and one out, he turned on a middle-in fastball from Yankees starter Will Warren and deposited it into the right-field stands.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just a professional hitter,\u201d Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said postgame. \u201cHe knows how to stay within himself. That\u2019s a veteran at-bat in a big moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keegan Akin worked through a high-stress sixth inning, stranding two runners by inducing weak contact. Yennier Can\u00f3 took the seventh and eighth, limiting the Yankees to just one hit. Felix Bautista came on in the ninth, showing his usual high-octane fastball to secure the save.<\/p>\n

The Yankees had chances, no doubt. They stranded nine runners and twice had the tying run in scoring position in the late innings. But timely hitting eluded them.<\/p>\n

Aaron Judge struck out three times, continuing a slump that has seen his average dip below .230. Juan Soto walked twice but was left waiting for someone behind him to cash in. Volpe and Wells each drove in a run, but New York\u2019s offense couldn\u2019t string enough hits together.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgainst a guy like Sugano, you\u2019ve got to make him uncomfortable early,\u201d Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. \u201cWe just couldn\u2019t do that tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sugano\u2019s debut isn\u2019t just significant for the Orioles\u2014it\u2019s another step in the evolving relationship between NPB and MLB. While Shohei Ohtani has dominated headlines, pitchers like Sugano and Kodai Senga are reminders of the rich pitching tradition in Japan.<\/p>\n
