LSU Tiger Timothy Wayne Throws Out Ceremonial First Pitch: A Big Thanks to the Rising Country Artist!<\/strong><\/h1>\n

BATON ROUGE, La. \u2014 LSU\u2019s Alex Box Stadium was buzzing with more than just baseball last Saturday night. Before the Tigers took the field for their weekend SEC clash, fans were treated to a special moment: rising country music star Timothy Wayne\u2014who also happens to be an LSU student\u2014stepped onto the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. What followed was a blend of Louisiana tradition, musical celebration, and college pride that left the crowd roaring in appreciation.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t just another celebrity appearance or publicity stunt. It was a symbolic fusion of two powerful Louisiana forces: LSU athletics and the state\u2019s rich country music culture. For Wayne, a sophomore majoring in communications who\u2019s been gaining traction in Nashville circles and on streaming platforms, it was a full-circle moment.<\/p>\n

While many LSU students spend their weekends preparing for tests or tailgating with friends, Timothy Wayne is balancing textbooks with tour buses. Over the past year, he\u2019s opened for country stars like Parker McCollum, Bailey Zimmerman, and Megan Moroney. His breakout single, \u201cBayou Nights,\u201d<\/em> has amassed over 5 million streams on Spotify and earned airtime on country radio throughout the South.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a crazy ride,\u201d Wayne said during a media huddle before the game. \u201cLSU is my home, and music is my passion. To be able to represent both on a night like this is something I\u2019ll never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born and raised just outside of Lafayette, Louisiana, Wayne\u2019s music is steeped in the sounds of the Gulf South\u2014fiddle, steel guitar, and lyrics that reflect swampy summers, faith, heartbreak, and the camaraderie found in football stadiums and fishing boats. His accent is thick, his smile wide, and his fans\u2014many of them LSU students\u2014are fiercely loyal.<\/p>\n

That loyalty was on full display as the stadium played clips of Wayne\u2019s music video for \u201cLouisiana Honey\u201d<\/em> on the Jumbotron prior to his pitch. Students held signs with his name, and chants of \u201cTi-mo-thy! Ti-mo-thy!\u201d broke out in the outfield bleachers.<\/p>\n

Throwing a ceremonial first pitch sounds easy\u2014until you’re in front of 10,000 screaming fans, national TV cameras, and a dozen LSU baseball legends standing behind home plate. But Wayne was determined not to let the moment pass without preparation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI practiced with my roommate for two days straight,\u201d Wayne admitted. \u201cHe was like, \u2018Dude, don\u2019t bounce it. That\u2019s the one rule. You bounce it, and Twitter\u2019s never going to let you live it down.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Wayne\u2019s throw landed just shy of the plate but didn\u2019t hit the dirt\u2014technically a strike if you ask the home crowd. Wearing a custom LSU jersey with \u201cWAYNE\u201d stitched on the back and cowboy boots to match, the singer pumped his fist and flashed a thumbs-up to the dugout. The crowd erupted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was more nervous about that pitch than I\u2019ve ever been before a concert,\u201d Wayne laughed. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to mess it up in front of Coach Johnson.\u201d<\/p>\n

LSU head coach Jay Johnson was one of the first to greet Wayne after the pitch. \u201cHe nailed it,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cYou can tell he\u2019s a Tiger through and through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Wayne\u2019s music career has taken him across the country, he still considers Baton Rouge home. In fact, he insists on taking all of his online classes from hotel rooms while on tour, never missing an assignment and still clocking into student events when he can.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome artists take a break from school when their music takes off,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I made a promise to my parents and myself that I\u2019d get my degree. LSU gave me the platform to chase both dreams, and I\u2019m going to finish what I started.\u201d<\/p>\n

His professors have taken notice too. Dr. Amanda Hughes, who teaches media marketing at LSU, praised Wayne’s work ethic.<\/p>\n

\u201cTimothy doesn\u2019t get any special treatment,\u201d Hughes said. \u201cHe earns everything. He submits on time, participates in group projects, and still makes it back to campus for guest lectures. He\u2019s a great ambassador for the university.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wayne\u2019s first pitch may have been the highlight of the evening, but it wasn\u2019t the only role he played. During the seventh-inning stretch, his acoustic rendition of \u201cTake Me Out to the Ball Game\u201d<\/em> was broadcast over the speakers\u2014pre-recorded in Nashville just for the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to put a Louisiana spin on it,\u201d Wayne said. \u201cA little slide guitar, a little swamp rhythm. LSU baseball is one of the best atmospheres in the country, and I wanted the moment to reflect that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The crowd swayed along, many of them already familiar with Wayne\u2019s catalog. His music has become a staple in student tailgates and dorm parties, earning him a dedicated following on campus.<\/p>\n

Senior student and baseball season ticket holder Katie Lemieux summed it up best: \u201cIt\u2019s not just that Timothy\u2019s good at what he does\u2014he\u2019s ours<\/em>. He\u2019s an LSU Tiger who made it big, but he never forgot where he came from.\u201d<\/p>\n

LSU\u2019s athletic department didn\u2019t invite Wayne to throw out the first pitch just because he\u2019s famous. This was about more than publicity\u2014it was about spotlighting one of their own.<\/p>\n

\u201cTimothy embodies everything great about LSU,\u201d said LSU athletic director Scott Woodward. \u201cHardworking, talented, humble, and proud of his roots. We love seeing our students succeed outside the classroom, and when they carry LSU with them, it means the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wayne\u2019s invitation came as part of LSU\u2019s ongoing initiative to recognize students with unique accomplishments in sports, the arts, and service. In recent years, they’ve honored robotics champions, Olympic qualifiers, and even student entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic has always been a part of Louisiana\u2019s culture, just like football or baseball,\u201d Woodward added. \u201cWe want our students to feel like their talents\u2014whatever they are\u2014are worth celebrating.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next for Timothy Wayne? He\u2019s set to release his debut full-length album this fall. Tentatively titled \u201cBayou Blood,\u201d<\/em> the project features collaborations with several country heavyweights and was recorded between Baton Rouge and Nashville.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a love letter to Louisiana,\u201d Wayne said. \u201cEvery track has a piece of home in it\u2014whether it\u2019s about driving down River Road, Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium, or missing my mama\u2019s gumbo.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also in talks for a major fall tour that could include a stop at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, LSU\u2019s basketball arena. \u201cWe\u2019re working on it,\u201d Wayne smiled coyly. \u201cIt\u2019d be a dream come true to headline my own campus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wayne hasn\u2019t ruled out returning to Tiger Stadium in another capacity, either. \u201cOne of my biggest dreams is to perform the national anthem before an LSU football game,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve been practicing just in case they ever call.\u201d<\/p>\n

Timothy Wayne\u2019s story isn\u2019t just one of personal success\u2014it\u2019s a blueprint for what\u2019s possible when talent meets determination. His journey has inspired fellow LSU students to think bigger, especially those pursuing unconventional paths.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was debating between staying in school or focusing on my music full time,\u201d said LSU junior and aspiring rapper Jeremiah \u201cJ-Mac\u201d Carter. \u201cSeeing what Timothy\u2019s doing? It gives me hope. You can<\/em> do both.\u201d<\/p>\n

LSU\u2019s student media, including Tiger TV and The Reveille, have documented Wayne\u2019s rise, turning him into something of a campus legend.
