Head coach Brent Venables and his staff have been proactive in addressing team needs, securing commitments from high-impact players to enhance both depth and talent.
Quarterback: John Mateer
Oklahoma’s most notable acquisition is quarterback John Mateer, who transferred from Washington State. Ranked as the No. 1 available transfer portal prospect, Mateer had an impressive 2024 season, throwing for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns, while also rushing for 826 yards and 15 touchdowns. His dual-threat capabilities make him a potential game-changer for the Sooners’ offense.
Offensive Line: Kolinu’u Faaiu
To bolster the offensive line, Oklahoma is reportedly interested in former Utah center Kolinu’u Faaiu. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 324 pounds, Faaiu offers significant size and experience, having started eight games for the Utes. His addition would provide depth and physicality to the Sooners’ front five.
Defensive Line: Damonic Williams & Jermayne Lole
On the defensive side, Oklahoma has secured commitments from defensive linemen Damonic Williams and Jermayne Lole. Williams, a transfer from TCU, brings experience with 27 career starts and 33 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks. Lole, who previously played at Arizona State and Louisville, adds veteran presence and versatility to the defensive front.
Edge Rusher: Marvin Jones Jr.
Former five-star edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr. has also joined the Sooners, transferring from Florida State. At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Jones recorded 25 tackles, six tackles for loss, and four sacks in the 2024 season. His addition strengthens Oklahoma’s pass-rushing capabilities, providing a formidable presence on the edge.
Special Teams: Tate Sandell
To address special teams, Oklahoma has added kicker Tate Sandell, who transferred from UT-San Antonio. In the 2024 season, Sandell made 19 of 23 field goals and 35 of 36 extra points, including a record-setting 54-yard field goal. His accuracy and leg strength will be valuable assets for the Sooners.
Forward: Tae Davis
In men’s basketball, forward Tae Davis has transferred to Oklahoma from Notre Dame. Standing at 6-foot-9, Davis averaged 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the 2024 season. His scoring ability and size will be crucial for the Sooners as they look to strengthen their frontcourt
Center: John Hugley IV & Jalon Moore
Head coach Porter Moser has also added centers John Hugley IV and Jalon Moore to the roster. Hugley, a 6-foot-10 forward/center from Pittsburgh, averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in the 2024 season. Moore, a 6-foot-7 forward, started 15 games at Georgia Tech last year. Both players bring size and experience to the Sooners’ frontcourt.
While Oklahoma has made significant additions, there have been notable departures as well. Freshman defensive lineman Derrick LeBlanc entered the transfer portal after one semester in Norman. Despite being a highly touted recruit, LeBlanc’s path to playing time became more competitive with the influx of veteran transfers.
As the offseason progresses, Oklahoma’s coaching staff remains active in the transfer portal, seeking to address any remaining gaps and strengthen the roster further.
