Thierry Henry and Robert Pières, former partners in Arsenal and in the French team, met on Tuesday before the Champions League match against Real Madrid (3-0) in a fun exchange on their penalty fired in two but pitifully failed in October 2005.
Nearly twenty after, their failed bluff stroke continues them still. Thierry Henry and Robert Pirès met at the Emirates Stadium before the first leg of the Champions League between Arsenal and Real Madrid (3-0), Tuesday, April 8. Partners for six years at the Gunners (2000-2006), the two former players remembered some memories on the CBS Sports set where Henry exercises as a consultant in Champions League evenings.

And the former striker was teasing with his guest by hearing his first words in an English sometimes approximate. “I'm fine, thank you, I'm happy to be there. I can't speak with Thierry Henry, he's very funny,” smiled the former Messin. “You may have to translate,” said Henry ironically to production. “Did you understand what he just said?” He added a few moments later before ticking on a new Pirès sentence construction error. “'During the Session Training'? Hum! Training Session No?” He said it before adding. “Yes, I understand you, but I understood you better with the ball.”
The top scorer in the history of Arsenal then left the set at the mention of an embarrassing episode involving the two men. In October 2005, they began to shoot a penalty in two in a match against Manchester City. But the experience had turned ridiculous when Pirès before missed his pass for Henry, allowing the defense to get out.
“OK, I leave you alone because it was he who missed him,” says Henry before letting worse explain the presenter. “It was my fault,” he admitted. “I do not know what crossed my mind, I missed the ball. The referee did not know this rule. I repeat, it is my fault, my error.”
Questioned by the other consultants Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards on the genesis of this gesture, Pirès explained that he was not at the origin: “It was the idea of Thierry Henry”. “You know that I am a thinker, I study the game so I know these things and it had to be me. But I did not make the mistake,” said Henry. “It's my fault Jamie”, still flashes Pirès. “It is always someone else's fault with Thierry Henry,” defends him the former defender of Liverpool.
After the long mockery against his former partner in the French team, Thierry Henry concluded with a few sweet words towards him. “I must say something about this man,” he concludes. “We laugh, I don't care about him but he was a special player. Playing with his side at Arsenal and in the French team was brilliant. In training, if you were with Robert Pirès, you never lost a game with his application and his technique. Robert could still play football today, the only thing is that the field would be too big. But he never lost the ball.”
