In search of a new defender for next season, OM is thinking about the profile of Facundo Medina. But the competition is already XXL for the Marseillais. This file already seems complicated before it even started.

OM is already preparing its summer transfer window with a clear priority: strengthening its defense. In view of next season, Marseille leaders want to recruit a very high level central defender to solidify a sector that is too often undermined this year. According to our information, Facundo Medina, solid rock of the RC Lens and Argentinian international, is at the top of the Olympian short-list. Appreciated for its temperament, its physical impact and its quality of recovery, Medina ticks all the boxes. OM dreams of this profile to relaunch a new cycle … but there are many obstacles.
Facundo Medina, a very coveted target
Problem for OM: Facundo Medina is not lacking in contenders. His profile caught the eye of many European stables with significantly higher financial means. In the Premier League, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have already taken action. In Serie A, AS Rome is also on the file, just like Bayer Leverkusen, a brilliant semi-finalist of the Europa League. In other words, competition promises to be fierce, and above all very expensive. The RC Lens does not intend to sell off its player, and claims an amount of around 25 million euros to consider a departure this summer.
OM too short financially?
Faced with this XXL competition, OM is clearly going with a delay. The Marseille club, whose finances remain fragile, will not be able to align with the English offers without a big departure in the current workforce. Without European qualification, it will be very difficult to convince Medina to join a project under reconstruction. Unless there is a turnaround, this file therefore seems too complex for OM, which will no doubt have to turn to more affordable tracks to strengthen its hinge. Unless a surprise comes to relaunch negotiations …
