The climate has been tense in recent months between the Ligue 1 clubs and their main broadcaster, Dazn. Between unwarmed promises, pending payments and open legal battle, confidence has quickly disappeared. At the heart of this storm which does not end, the presidents of the clubs of the French elite were summoned this Tuesday to a strategic college by the LFP. The stake was clear: to rule on the future of their collaboration with the “Netflix of Sport”, arrived at the last minute and quickly caught up in the realities of the French market.

Dazn, it's the end

If the formalization has not yet fallen, the ax already seems to be lifted: according to information from the newspaper the teama majority of Ligue 1 clubs expressed their desire to break the contract with Dazn at the end of this season. A decision fraught with consequences, but motivated by increasing tensions with the platform, which has still not honored two major deadlines, up to 140 million euros.

Worse, Dazn countered in court, accusing the LFP of having misleaded it during the tender, demanding in passing 573 million euros in damages. It remains to be seen whether the Board of Directors of the LFP, gathered in the process, will follow this unequivocal orientation. But at this stage, the rupture seems more than a hypothesis: it promises to be imminent. A new page is preparing to be written for the audiovisual rights of French football, while the uncertainties on the future of the broadcast of the championship are constantly growing.

To summarize

Ligue 1 clubs plan to break their contract with Dazn due to financial and judicial tensions. The platform did not honor payments of 140 million euros and initiated prosecution against the LFP. The rupture seems imminent, opening a new era for TV rights of French football.
