We undoubtedly understand better why Nico Harrison is discreet in front of journalists since the Trade of Luka Doncic. Unable to put forward good arguments, he found himself stuck during the famous meeting on Tuesday.
Apart from a quick press conference to formalize, Nico Harrison has not appeared before journalists since. He attended meetings in person, but prohibition for the GM to communicate with the media or to come and explain it. An approach that has only frustrated fans still a little more in Dallas.
Okay or not with the trade, we can all see that the MAVs are convinced of having made the right choice. They believe that Anthony Davis offers a better chance of winning with her defense, not to mention her association with Kyrie Irving. But then, why does Harrison avoid the media? We have several answers after Tuesday's meeting.
Nico Harrison embarrassed by a journalist
Reminder: The Mavericks invited some media this Tuesday around a table to evoke the Trade of Doncic or the future of the Mavericks. The latter refused phones and cameras by the way. Result ? The journalists were embarrassed and encountered a franchise which refuses to admit an error or any questioning.
Rick Welts compared the Doncic trade to that of Monta Ellis and Andrew Bogut in 2012 by the Warriors, which says a lot. Harrison has hammered all the questions that “defense makes titles win”. It was his main argument, even when Tim Macmahon (ESPN) asked him why a team having accessed the grand NBA final (like the MAVs in 2024) would not be able to win the title?
Again, Harrison replied that the defense was doing everything. But he remained speechless in front of the Newy Scruggs issue.

No doubt because it doesn't exist. The defense wins titles, yes, but not necessarily by sacrificing its main offensive weapon by the way. This is not going to reassure supporters in Dallas.
When asked to explain it, Nico Harrison ultimately does not have many arguments to give the defense apart. Holded by journalists, we understand why GM is very discreet at the moment.
