The series is not over, but the last episode has had its little effect. And we look forward to it. On Thursday, the Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) ruled in favor of Barça and authorized Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, whose licenses had been canceled by La Liga for lack of financial guarantees at the end of 2024, to continue to play until the end of the season. The CSD declared in a statement that the mixed committee having decided to cancel the licenses was incompetent.
This cancellation of licenses is therefore considered to be “zero and not avenue” by the CSD which authorizes OLMO, recruited last summer for almost 60 million euros, and the young Pau Victor to play normally. A conclusion immediately disputed by the Liga, which assured in a press release its intention to appeal, believing that this decision was “not in accordance” in law.
Barça is looking for money
According to La Liga, the licenses of the two Spaniards, temporarily recorded at the start of the season following the Danish injury Andreas Christensen, “expired automatically”, while Barça tried to find a new source of income to enter the nails of financial fair play. The Catalan club thought they had succeeded when it formalized in January the sale to Qatari and Emirati companies the operation of VIP seats at Camp Nou, still under construction, for an amount estimated at 100 million euros over twenty years.
But according to La Liga, “no amount from the VIP lodges agreement is ultimately recorded in losses and profits accounts, contrary to what had been certified by the club and the auditor at the time of the operation”. The CSD, the highest place in Spanish sport, had temporarily authorized Olmo and Victor to replay in the Blaugrana jersey last January, time to decide definitively.
