Croatian football is in mourning this Saturday. Former international player Nikola Pokrivac, notably passed through AS Monaco in the 2008-2009 season (36 games), died in a car accident at the age of 39, the federation announced. The accident occurred Friday in Karlovac, about fifty kilometers southwest of Zagreb.
Two teammates in serious condition
Defensive midfielder, Pokrivac had to end his professional career at 30 due to Hodgkin lymphoma (cancer of a type of white blood cells called lymphocytes). However, he continued to play in amateur clubs in Croatia.
He had evolved in particular at Dinamo Zagreb and Red Bull Salzburg, with a passage by Ligue 1 so in the meantime. He had 15 selections with Croatia, playing Euro 2008. Two teammates who accompanied him in the car are in critical condition.
