In a heartfelt homecoming that has captivated the Big Blue Nation, 7-foot-1 center Reece Potter has officially committed to the University of Kentucky men’s basketball program. A Lexington native and former standout at Lexington Catholic High School, Potter’s journey from local fan to Wildcat player embodies the dreams of many young athletes in the Bluegrass State.

Growing up in Lexington, Potter was immersed in Kentucky basketball culture from an early age. He vividly recalls watching the Wildcats’ 2012 national championship team, led by Anthony Davis, as a formative experience. “That was just how talented that group was. I feel like the whole team got drafted in the first round,” Potter reminisced. The allure of donning the blue and white jersey was ever-present, making his recent commitment a dream come true.

Potter’s path to Kentucky wasn’t straightforward. After two seasons at Miami (OH), where he averaged 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and showcased impressive shooting skills for a big man, he entered the transfer portal. While several programs expressed interest, including North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Washington, the moment Kentucky reached out, his decision was clear. “As soon as Kentucky contacted me, I was like, ‘Oh, well, that’s where I’m going,'” Potter shared. His parents, recognizing his lifelong aspiration, supported his choice wholeheartedly.

Potter’s commitment is more than a personal milestone; it’s a testament to Kentucky’s rich basketball heritage and the program’s emphasis on nurturing homegrown talent. Under head coach Mark Pope, the Wildcats have been proactive in recruiting players who not only possess skill but also understand the significance of representing Kentucky. Potter joins fellow Kentucky natives Trent Noah, Jasper Johnson, and Malachi Moreno on the 2025–26 roster, reinforcing the program’s commitment to local talent.
