The beautiful European evening of Athletic Bilbao, 2-0 winner of the Rangers and qualified for the semi-finals of the Europa League, was somewhat spoiled by incidents on the sidelines of the game. While the atmosphere had remained festive in San Mamés, overflows broke out after the final whistle near the stadium, involving rangers supporters who broke the security protocol when leaving the enclosure before the scheduled time, said Relief.
The police had to intervene in the surrounding streets, notably rue Sabino Araba and rue Lico -scansa Poza, where supporters faced the police with projectiles, bottles and firecrackers. Ertzaintza replied with rubber bullet shots, and a barricade was drawn up using containers, several of which were burned. An important security device had however been deployed, but the premature evacuation of Scottish fans caused a collapse of the device, triggering a real chaos in the center of Bilbao.
