Dallas saw its season end during the play-in, a particularly complicated season which took a lunar turning around the Deadline trade. Arrived this summer in Texas, Klay Thompson did not chew on his personal feeling.
In a sense, you had to expect it. That the Mavericks qualify for the play-in was already a small miracle in itself, given the personnel problems that the franchise experienced. Kyrie Irving having been forfeit for the season since early March and Anthony Davis having played only nine games in his new colors, it took the tumble of the Suns so that the men of Jason Kidd remain in the Top 10.
After that and despite a victory against the Kings, the Texans did not have arms to fight against Memphis. A year after reaching the NBA finals, they are now on vacation while an offseason full of uncertainties is looming on the horizon. This is indeed the whole future of the franchise that has been turned upside down since the transfer of Luka Davisic against Davis, a MOVE which continues to traumatize local supporters.
Klay Thompson honest on the Mavericks Lunar Season
Having landed in Dallas last summer to play alongside the Slovenian, Klay Thompson therefore experienced a huge disillusionment when he saw the latter joining the Lakers … While fate, he had declined an offer from the latter in order to fulfill his goal. So does he regret having made this decision? This is the same question that was asked recently and the former back of the Warriors answered frankly:
Don't do that to me. Don't do that. Really, don't do that (bitter laughs). It is a ridiculous question. I don't have a time in time, and I don't believe in the fact of going back. If I had worked like that all my career, I would not be there today, I could not have overcome two very complicated injuries. I am here in Dallas, I enjoyed my season, and I turn to the future.
He may say that he does not regret anything, difficult not to read between the lines and detect a big bitterness dose for the quadruple champion. And at the same time, this is understood without difficulty given the scenario of this 2024-25 campaign. All the more on the side of his former team, Golden State will compete in the playoffs well …

Klay Thompson would he have joined the Mavericks if he had known what would happen a few months later? A posteriori, this seems particularly improbable. It remains to be seen whether it will remain in Texas beyond the offseason … Again, not sure it does it.
