​OU Softball: Oklahoma Coach Patty Gasso Lands National Award

Oklahoma Sooners head softball coach Patty Gasso has been named the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s (USOPC) 2024 College Coach of the Year. This prestigious honor recognizes her exceptional leadership and the historic achievements of her program over the past year.​

A Historic Achievement

Under Gasso’s guidance, the Sooners secured their fourth consecutive NCAA national championship in 2024, a feat unmatched in collegiate softball history. This victory marked the program’s eighth national title, further solidifying Oklahoma’s dominance in the sport. Gasso’s remarkable career includes 17 Women’s College World Series appearances and a consistent presence in postseason play throughout her 31-year tenure at OU. ​

Transition to the SEC

The 2025 season marks Oklahoma’s inaugural year in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and Gasso has seamlessly led the team to a 42–5 overall record and a 16–5 conference record. Her ability to maintain excellence during this transition underscores her adaptability and strategic acumen. ​

National Recognition and Leadership

In addition to her collegiate success, Gasso was appointed head coach of the USA Softball Women’s National Team in February 2025. She is set to lead the team through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with her first major international competition being the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. Notably, four of her former OU players have been named to the national team roster, reflecting her influence on the sport at both collegiate and international levels. ​
