Ligue 1 not attractive enough
In an article published a few hours after the big announcement, The Athletic Details behind the scenes of Salah's decision. Long announced as a probable destination, despite the denials of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, PSG has never really been envisaged by the Salah clan. Ramy Abbas, the Colombian lawyer who represents the Reds striker for a long time, quickly calculated the financial impact of an arrival of Salah in France. He concluded that Ligue 1 did not benefit from the visibility of the Premier League … and therefore that a signature in the French championship would have a negative impact on the sponsors of the Egyptian.
With its important financial means, Saudi Arabia is the other option that has regularly returned to the table when talking about the future of Salah. SAUDI PRO League residents are among the rare clubs in the world capable of aligning enough money to offer such a player. But Salah loves his life in England, where his private life is respected and where he can focus on his career. He was not sure that he was the same in Saudi Arabia, a country close to his native Egypt.
Salah convinced that his best years are coming
The level of the Saudi championship was another brake. The Reds striker believes that the best years of his career are still to come. He notably takes the example of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric or Karim Benzema, all sacred Ballon d'Or after their 33 years – the age that Salah will have in June.
For the Reds striker, the only possible alternative was therefore the signature in another Premier League club. A hypothesis quickly dismissed. The main interested party first refused any idea to join the Manchester United rivals or Manchester City. A possible return to Chelsea could have been studied, the Egyptian believing still has something to prove in the Blues jersey after having failed to impose itself there between 2014 and 2015. But Chelsea's strategy, focused on the recruitment of young players, killed in the egg any comeback project.
