Andriy Shevchenko destroys UEFA after his defeat in the elections

The day after his defeat in the elections to join the UEFA Executive Committee, Andriy Shevchenko instructed the European body. In a communiqué Published by the Ukrainian Federation of which he is the president, the Ballon d'Or 2004 deplored the lack of recognition of UEFA with regard to his nation. For information, Shevchenko and Ukraine were seeking the seat previously occupied by Russia in the UEFA Executive Committee, which was finally recovered by Israel at the end of the elections (Shevchenko only obtained 15 votes from the 55 voting federations, against 31 in favor of the Israeli representative Moshe Zuares).

“Throughout my life and my career, I followed a fundamental principle: that of sport. I believe in a fair, open and transparent competition. I come from football and I represent football. Unfortunately, in recent days, we have received clear signals indicating that, for political reasons, neither Ukraine nor myself were welcome at the head of UEFA. These concerns were confirmed by the events that followed during the Congress itself (…) We will not change our position. We will continue our reforms in Ukrainian football and will remain involved in strong international communication in the interest of our nation and the whole football community “a déclaré Andriy Shevchenko.
