A record transaction. The Boston Celtics, reigning NBA champions, will change owners against $ 6.1 billion (5.63 billion euros). This sale, of an amount never reached for an American franchise, must still validated by the Board of Directors of the NBA, which notably brings together the owners of the franchises.

The amount of the transaction is therefore above 6.05 billion dollars spent during the acquisition of the Washington Commanders football franchise in 2023. A buyout which exceeds the previous NBA record by two billion, underlines The teamwhen Mat Ishbia had bought a majority part of the Phoenix Suns at the end of 2022 against $ 4 billion.

The Boston Celtics had been sold in July 2024 by the Grousbeck family, two weeks after obtaining their 18th title in the NBA. A (very) beautiful added value, the Celtics had been bought in 2002 for $ 360 million.

The new owner, William Chisholm is a longtime fan of the Celtics.
